As promised, here is the official release date. Unending Galaxy will be available on Steam the Feb 19, 2016 at 7:00pm PST. This version features cards and badges but no achievements or workshop support, yet. Achievements should be added soon after release. Workshop support may take a bit of time.
Apologies for the lack of updates since the 1.15 release. The main reason is that what I am currently doing related to Unending Galaxy isn’t exactly great reading material for an in-depth article. With the game being released on Steam very soon, most of my time is spent proof reading and optimizing the code.
Anyway, yes, Unending Galaxy will be available on Steam very soon. The initial release won’t integrate all the bells and whistles, but I plan on gradually adding achievements and steam workshop support once the dust has settled a bit.
This release is a major improvement over the last official 1.1.0.6 version. Beside fixing many issues detected by our users on the forums (thank you all for your help), it improves the user interface, makes managers more useful, adds new graphical settings and many other requested features.
Also included in the Deluxe Edition are two new maps, a whole new powerful and playable faction, the Ceridan Empire, and a new ‘colonization type’ scenario. It also unlocks a new special chain of events that will cause the Ceridans to appear in your galaxy.
All the new versions are available on the download page. For those who already own the game, your favorite store should get the new version shortly depending on how long it takes to upload everything. Additional details, including full changelog are available below.
It has been a long time since the last ‘official’ devlog. Don’t worry, development is still going strong, but most of the action, beside releases, occurred in the forums. Also, to acknowledge Christmas and new year’s eve, Unending Galaxy is 33% off on itch.io and IndieGameStand until December, 26th.
Next version will be 1.1.5 and should be available before (or around) the beginning of next year. It will have more content than 1.1 and include new maps and several community requested improvements. Let’s get to what has been done so far.
Well, never say never, because here is another, more stable version of the 1.1 release branch. It will fix most of the major problems encountered in 1.1.0.x, namely instabilities with savegames and trading. It also features new graphical settings to accommodate with older and/or uncommon hardware configuration. I also took the time to include a some of the frequently requested features: You can now assign or remove a home-sector to a group of ships simultaneously, and funds are issued as soon as a build order is given instead of when the construction ends. The new version can be found on the download page. Changelog at the end of this article.
Community News
First of all welcome to all the new members on the forum. It grew quite a bit in the recent weeks, well it grew so big that I had very little time to browse it outside of the technical and bug reports area. Don’t worry I will check out the rest now that this version is out. Another community mod has been released too: Extended Mod by ChaplinChap, it includes new factories, wares and weapons and even a new starting scenario, check it out!
Oh, IndieDB is doing an Indie Awards thingy. there’s no chance we’re going to win, but hey, drop a vote, that can’t hurt 🙂
This is the third, and hopefully last, maintenance release of the 1.1.0.x branch. It fixes a couple of errors introduced by last 1.1.0.2 release. Namely a freeze in the factory setup menu and an error message in the trading menu. Sorry about those two errors, they were a side effect of upgrading a major library at the last minute. Also, your automated dock builders shouldn’t try to build stations and factories in foreign territory anymore.
Development of new features and the 1.2 branch will resume this week if no more game breaking bugs are noticed in the following days.
This second maintenance build fixes a majority of the issues that have be reported on the forums. The way the game loads and unloads has been reworked. As a result, you should no longer experience problems when loading savegames from a running session. It has also the side effect of reducing the initial loading time. The graphical library has been upgraded too, game menus should feel much more responsive, popups and tool tips should close properly when they are expected to. It may also fix problems for people experiencing graphical glitches. The error message when selling wares to a dock is gone too.
Feature-wise: a self-repair button has been added to your station setup menu. Hostile pirate raiders should no longer give pursuit across the whole galaxy. The “build” button allows you to select where to build your dock instead of assuming you want to buy it at the ship position. Finally, some tweaking has been done to balance ship part production.
All the new versions are available on the download page. Additional details, including full changelog are available below.
