Lots of content being added with two new factions and multiple docks, ships and weaponry. One of those factions likely to be tied to the event system. I also redesigned the main UI a bit. I made damage types more interesting and added an editor for it.
It’s also a good time to tell that if you found a bug in the latest beta (4.1), be a dear and report it, I may not know about it.
It looks like the Beta 4 was shipped with a fairly annoying bug that was heavily reducing power plants production, causing an economic slowdown and way too many “get me some energy cells” missions to spawn. The 4.1 beta, which fixes this issue, has just been released. It also includes a few additional features to make up for the inconvenience.
As usual, the update is available in the download section and people who bought the game on itch.io can use their private link.
Changelog:
New: Made dock traders better at deciding which resource is the most needed
New: Price for factory supplies is dynamic
New: Reassigned thread priorities, game should feel less laggy when lots of things are happening in the galaxy
Fixed: Factories stopping production before their cargo space is full
Fixed: Too many trade missions are energy related
Fixed: Bug in some scenarios causing badly named player ships and docks
Unending Galaxy [Beta 4] is now available for download !
At last, the beta 4 is available. As usual, I won’t list everything new, fixed or changed, because there’s way too many things to list and it would make the devlogs fairly useless, but here are the main points:
New combat AI with better flying patterns and turret tracking
Trading and production system overhaul
Improved user interface and gameplay
Automated ships can be tweaked
Many bug and stability issues fixed
I hope you will enjoy this release. The changelog may not be as big as usual, but between the improved combat mechanisms, the trading overhaul and the more complete and consistent UI, there’s already plenty to do.
My apologies for the delayed devlog, it has been a busy month for me, but don’t worry the development is still going as it’s used to. Beta 4 is even going to be released later this week barring any last minute major problem.
Back on topic, the last two weeks were spent putting the finishing touches on the general user interface, fixing a bazillion small issues, improving things left and right, and more importantly finalizing the trading system.
First of all, a big thank you to the fine folks at the Bay12 (Dwarf Fortress) forums ! Your help has been invaluable. If you want a pick at the Unending Galaxy’s topic it’s here.
Anyway, as we are slowly but surely closing in on the final release, I have been reviewing each feature one by one in order to make it whole. There’s still a lot of ground to cover but we’re getting there. I also improved how ships act in battle in quite a major way. Next beta should be available in roughly 2 weeks, barring any IRL issues.
Unending Galaxy [Beta 3] is now available for download !
As usual, I won’t list everything new, fixed or changed, because there’s way too many things to list and it would make the devlogs fairly useless, but here are the main points:
Ownership of a locations depends on who has the most stations there
New semi-random events happening at irregular intervals
Free Trader AI for player ships, a fire and forget trade command
The Swarm lifeforms are able to take over sector and infest mining stations
Massive performance and stability boost
Many little changes to the economic system
Animated stations, constellations, and many other graphical improvements
I hope you will enjoy this release. As usual, feel free to comment here or on the forums, any input is welcome. That said, there’s still a few other things to cover and explain, this is what I am going to do in this article.
No devlog this week as the beta 3 should be released tomorrow or the day after. Also, that will allow me to get back to the usual weekly sunday/monday post instead of publishing a random day of the week. I fixed the issue where multiple similar (with some of them not working) screen resolutions would appear in the graphical settings menu, by the way 🙂
