Unending Galaxy 0.6.2 Released !

Snap722Due to a critical bug reported in the last version, I just published the version 0.6.2. Of course, it isn’t a huge step forward in term of gameplay. It however includes a bug report module. If the game crashes, you’ll be asked if you want to save the report. Please do so, and use our forums to post about it.

That said here are the new features (some are incomplete)

  • New profile selection: You can start the game as a pirate, a trader, a young empire…
  • Ability to buy and sell weapons and shields at military bases and shipyards
  • Made bullet speed and range proportional to ship’s movement
  • Added proper starting and game loading screens
  • Attack fleets should reinforce as needed
  • Colors of factions are hardcoded (potential work around reported crash)

WARNING :If you have downloaded this release before this message was added, please re-download, it was incomplete (bug report module was not included). My apologies for the inconvenience.

Critical bug in 0.6.0 being investigated

It has come to my attention that a bug in 0.6.0 prevents the game from loading properly on some machines. The issue is being investigated. I am going to publish a build featuring a proper bug report system, this build will also have a potential fix for what I suspect to cause said crash.

Stay tuned.

Unending Galaxy 0.6.0 Released !

Snap719As promised, here is the latest alpha version of Unending Galaxy. It’s far more complete and stable than the previous 0.5.5 build. This is as feature complete as you’ll get before the beta release planned for September.

As usual, the full article will explain the changes into more details, but here’s the main points:

  • Load and Save your game
  • Ability to play music
  • Nearly completed user interface
  • Mission system and ship to ship communications
  • Many AI related improvements

Hey, new visitors !

Welcome !

I’d like to thank the fine chaps at Rock Paper Shotgun for their article on Unending Galaxy.

Just a quick word of warning before throwing yourselves at the demo. It’s not an alpha in the “Kickstarter” sense. It is really an unfinished product with many features that are missing, and it’s not guaranteed to work on your machine. It was released nearly a month ago, and things have changed a lot since then. I will, however, publish this week a new version featuring the improvements detailed on the devlog, and it will be the last alpha demo before the proper Beta release planned for September.

Comments (good or bad) and performances reports are of course welcome.

Cheers,
SK.

Devlog: Comms and Trading

Snap702Hey, weekly devlog thingy !

I will make this one short, not because there’s not a lot that has been done, but because the important bits can be explained rather quickly, for once (and absolutely not because I need to sleep). Anyway ! In the stuff that you can see, I started improving the communication channel thingy with the other ships and added a setup menu for your factories. In the stuff you can’t, I drastically improved stability and multi-threading.

As usual details and relevant screenshots in the article. Enjoy 🙂

State of the Development

Snap693I think it’s a good time to summarize what has been done and what’s left to do regarding Unending Galaxy. This is going to be a long post, but hopefully more interesting than usual, that will go through all aspects of the game. Note that this is about the current in-house build and not the 0.5.5 demo. If it’s your first time on the website, you may want to check the product page first to know what I am talking about.

Feel free to comment and post ideas before we are out of the stage at which I still may consider new features and major changes. You don’t need to register to do so, I know most people don’t like Disqus but that was either that or wasting my time erasing loads of spam every day.

Devlog: Missions (and lot of other stuff) !

Snap688Hey, It’s time for our weekly development update and it’s a big one !

Changes to the user interface went faster than expected, so I found some time to implement the mission system that would have been delayed until next week otherwise. I also implemented a basic support for music (announcement coming up, by the way), added a few new art assets while improving existing one, and made several improvements both in terms of performances and gameplay.

As usual, the following post explains all this in a more detailed manner. Also, expect a “design / state of the development” kind of post soon to summarize how far we are and what’s left to do.

Enjoy ! 🙂
